I don't think she's seeing religion as a way of justifying her actions like your W did. That was just plain weird.

I think she is searching for some kind of guidance. But is either too ashamed or depressed to actually go to someone and talk about it.

Right now she has no immediate reason to do so because her family "supports" her regardless of what she's doing.
