I offer my condolences to you & your family on this loss Gypsy, I know it's hard, be strong for your kids but don't feel you have to be a rock, allow your family & others to comfort you.
What can one of Smiley's people say at a time like this? I look in my own dog's eyes and know the same future awaits me.
My mother is a life-long dog-lover who has never, with the exception of a brief time in nurse's training, not lived with a dog. She says that Heaven is where you get reunited with all your dogs, so this isn't the end -- just a different beginning.
Agnes Sligh Turnbull, who was a popular novelist at the turn of the 20th-century, was a dog lover, too. She wrote: "Dogs' lives are too short; their only fault, really."
Too true...too true.
@robx is right -- don't carry this load. Whatever else the circumstances of one's life, the perfect M or the perfect D, this is something everyone should be allowed to carry in their own way. As Smiley himself once said, the only reward for love is having loved.
So take your reward. You loved, and your dog loved you.
I'm so sorry. I have two dogs, one of whom my stbxw and I saved from the animal shelter the day we returned from our honeymoon. She is old now, and know the day is coming when she will not be with us anymore. And that dog was our first child.
I will say a prayer for you and your family. I know Tiggy was comfortable - she had all of you around her.
My heart breaks for you my friend - Just know you and your family are in my prayers and you have many many people here who will comfort you during this time.
He will cover you with His feathers And under His wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:4

May All Who Seek To Take My Life Be Put To Shame And Confusion; May All Who Desire My Ruin Be Turned Back In Disgrace. ~Psalm 40:14~
We've lost two long-beloved pets in recent years; I can't think of anything that hurts more.
Tiggy will be happy and waiting for you on the other side. Remember that.
Me: 44, Wife: 39 M: 17 years T: 20 years Bomb on 08/25/09 1/13/10: MC started 1/28/10, 2/8/10: More bombs 8/28/10: Wife moved out No talk of D, no movement
just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you during this difficult time. The bonds that are forged with our pets are quite precious.
The sadness will recede and then all of the wonderful memories will remain. It made me happy to hear that Tiggy was able to pass the way that Tiggy did with all of you who's lives were touched right there.
