It was a little warmer today, though also a bit cloudy. So I did go golfing. I went to a different course, this one has green grass! The one I went to yesterday (and struggled mightily) has dormant fairways right now, it's grass, sort of! I think having some real grass under the ball helps.
Anyway, for about 20 minutes, I thought I could play! (Non golfers can tune out, I just feel like telling someone!) The first hole is about a 310 yard par 4, I used my 5 wood off the tee to be safe, and had about 90 yards left. I made a pretty nice approach. I hit my putt, it rolled up to the hole, stopped, looked in, and then fell! The next hold is about 470 yard, a par 5. It's a bit uphill for the first 150 yards, but then falls downhill to the hole. So the tee shot is blind. I hit it well, and it rolled down the hill, about 300 yards in the middle of the fairway! Then I hit my 7 wood, it rolled off the back of he green about 20 feet from the hole. Chipped it to 8 inches, easy birdie! Then a par 3, tee shot on the green and two putts. The next hole is a shortish par 5, I took a a 6 with a sand save, and that included a drive into the desert and a penalty. (I rehit from the tee, so it was kinda like another birdie!) I came back to earth after that, but still!
On the way home I stopped at XW's house and did some network setup. I do it because it's really for the kids, and I like doing that kind of thing, anyway. Then S12 and I had dinner, S15 is staying at a friend's house tonight.
For a while my driver was completely useless. I didn't even carry it. I was hitting 5 wood or even 7 wood off the tee just to try to keep the ball where I could find it!
Sounds like Jeff had a good day (at least for a few holes) on the links.
After my coffee date meetup, I went to the range and was so confident based upon the prior 3 days there. Wrong. There was a young guy about 21 or so that apparently was a college player in the station next to me (in my view). He was blasting every ball he hit into orbit on a straight line, and of course, that made me try too hard and my swing was off quite a bit. Or maybe it was the caffine. Or maybe I was wearing the wrong shirt. I think my shoe was too loose. Hey, a golfer has to have excuses. I did learn something from watching him though - he was very meticulous about setting up and going through quite a few motions before every shot. And he was using sticks for his alignment and an impact bag after every few shots. Even an old dog can learn from a young dog.
Kerry, ROFLMAO. Your shoe? Really? I've got a freakin' boot on! Strategically dangerous move. Never reveal your weakness to the other side. Based on your report, I'm pretty sure I can give you a run for your money.
Jeff, when I'm all better and back on my feet (can't really get a good swing going right now), we'll get a round in.
My driver has been driving me crazy before the rain set in. I think I need to ivest in one of the new fangled ones as mine is about 15 years old. Too soggy here to play but can't wait to get out there. Good thing FFG's BFF works at a golf club!
