My H sidesteps that issue with an "I will always love you but" approach. I asked him a month or so ago, "What AM I to you? Your wife, your friend, the woman you used to love, your enemy, the mother of your kids, what?"
He said he honestly had never thought of it that way and didn't know?? (Where is the eye-rolling smiley when you need it?)
Happy Friday Lola. Hope you feel better. I hate those Mucinex commercials for the visual images. Those and the ones where the little critter that sounds like Don Rickles tears up your toenail and jumps in---ouch!!
