was there anything in between the I'm just calling, and getting ready...? if not, well, usually when we cut a convo short, you don't cut it after the first sentence.
remember, upbeat having fun! I might have responded..."Great to hear from you, I just had the best dinner myself!" and then maybe he would have asked about it, or not, and then I might have ended, "I better go, have a great evening!"
be excited when he hears you. you are wanting to act carefree but busy and having fun. you want him to want to be a part of your life.
OR
you can act the way HE is acting, and he won't want a part of that because he is not happy with who he is or where he is right now.
