Operation DARK as you can BE (while both living at home, w/children together) is NOW in PLACE.
I wish expletives were allowed. It would make this rant so much better.
OK, so you had a bad work week, you're tired, you're this, you're that... F' IT! That does NOT justify some negative/slightly hurtful comment every time you enter a room; some check-off of what has been done here (FOLKS, I'm A PRETTY MUCH SINGLE MOM W/A CAREER during the week! Our home is a showcase, homemade meals prepared, laundry done, etc...), etc...
This is NOT the time to set a boundary about the way he's being either, because he'll get pissed and bolt.
SO, every time I enter a room or he does AND HE STARTS W/THE NEG BULLSHIRT, I'm answering politely, AND COMPLETELY CUTTING HIM OFF from this non-stop chatter he craves. If he wants to talk to me, THEN START THE CONVO PLEASANTLY.
He throws a zinger, then EXPECTS/FORCES an answer, reply, etc... THEN goes on like all is fine.
I AM STAYING AWAY from him when he's here, and only speaking when required.
DONE!
GO TALK TO THE FRIGGIN WALL!

OK, I've calmed down. I could feel I was going to come off bitchy, and had the chance to turn this around...
Long story short, the boys were being borderline heathens, just goofing off like boys do, and weren't listening well. H told them to listen to what I was asking them to do... They didn't really hear it. H suggests talking about what would make us better listeners (put down the DS, stop txting, etc...). So, I asked if I could add something. I added how we could make someone want to listen more... LIKE, how about greeting someone appropriately, leading w/positive statements, and a pleasant demeanor.
I said it nicely, but he got it.
He's fine now. And, we are communicating fine, and even having some fun.
He gets a pass on this one, only because he still hasn't really slept. I'm ready for the weather to get better!

I think the real question is whether he can remember for more than three hours. You know, it doesn't take any more energy to be positive than it does to be negative. He is choosing negative.
