The divorce decree stated that our son once he graduated from college would no longer have to be on Bill's insurance. Bill did not include our son in his coverage during the election period in November. Our son actually did graduate in December. Bill never thought of continuing coverage with both of us paying part, or allowing our son to pay his portion of being covered under the insurance since in CT children are allowed to remain on until age 25. In fact, Bill never said anything to our son about him not being on the insurance.
Guess who might have mono and/or tonsillitis on his first week on the job, where he won't have medical coverage until after working 30 days? Yes.. the newly employed college graduate.. who never gets sick. And the kid is miserable.. it's painful to see how sick he is.
I have to let the "Storm Lady-Be Prepared for the Worst Catastrophe Ever" persona hush and relax... Instead of running around like a frickin' banshee screaming my head off, railing at the injustice and single mindedness of Bill's actions and thought process: "I don't have to do it so I won't.. period. And I won't tell anyone either." Yuck. And of course I imagine CAT scans for the mono and/or a tonsillectomy. Yep.. I go right to the bad stuff, the worst stuff, the most expensive stuff!
At least Bill is good at doing projects.. and crossing things off his list.
Now it's time to calmly delete the not so calm email I was writing him. Oh yes.. and to pay attention to my signature line, too.
Right now my son only owes for the doctor's visit and medication. I paid for the meds.. and we'll see what the visit will cost. Maybe they'll give him a break because he doesn't have insurance.
It would be up to my son to ask his dad. But hopefully this is a blip, the medication will work meaning it's tonsillitis, he'll get better and all will be good with the world.
Oh yes.. he'd been burrowed in blankets asleep when I left to drop off his sister and go to the store. I brought up all the necessary supplies.. little ice cream packs, things to make tasty slushies, the meds. He came up to me with the quilt wrapped around him and hugged me and stayed there while I cooed and did those Mom pats on his back. It's odd that it's so hard for me to see my young adult son in such pain.. probably because he never gets sick.
But that hug was so sweet.. that being a Mom is just that. A Mom, in all the right ways.
Moms...I still remember going into my military recruiter office to be sworn in and then driven to the airport to fly to basic training. My mom was there. After the recruiter swore me in, I turned around to say goodbye to my mom and was shocked to see she had tears running down her face.
Oh, just thinking about that with my own son and I almost start to cry - and he is only 14! Of COURSE your mom cried!
My son just went through a growth spurt and grew over 4 inches in less months - he is now officially taller than me - and it is still sweet that he comes over to give me a real hug when he gets home and before bed.
Gyps - hope your son feels better pdq - relish the time he lets you pamper him! I'll give you a call tomorrow about Saturday...I'm going to try to make it.

Not sure, but I can still surprise him and pick him up and carry him off- he doesn't even weigh 100 pounds! We've gotten into some play pushing matches, and he is getting stronger at that...
I am guessing that Gypsy has no hope against either son in arm wrestling. Even when they are sick as a dog. Testosterone makes it so they would refuse to lose to mom.
That's so true Kerry... but you should have seen some of our scuffling, who can block each other on a wooden floor matches. Being short with a woman's weighting and tenacity helped. The kids wearing socks was just a bonus.
Good news.. my oldest started feeling increasing better almost right after taking the antibiotics and painkiller. He's off to work today. Made him a Gatorade slushie this morning for his hurting throat. Found a recipe.. all I had to do was substitute the vodka with 7-UP.
