Could it be that there are spouses who just need the final D papers before they realise oops this is not the happy place they`d hoped it would be and that life with their former spouses was actually pretty okay...
I am sure this happens. I don't think it's the case here, but I could be wrong. I think she always thought that we could be "friends". I don't think that she has a clue how much years of rejection hurt. I do expect that there will be days when she realizes that I wasn't completely useless, but I don't think she'll do anything about it. I hope not, because I don't want her back. The changes she would have to make a too great, I think.
I think there is ugliness coming up regarding S20. The good thing is that I think she will support me. He had at least some finals at college snowed out at the end of the term. The students had the option of taking the grade they had without the final, or taking the final after they return in January. I looked to see what grades had been posted, expecting either "Incomplete" or a final grade. Well, there was a C, and three F's. From my memories of college, you've got to try to get an F... they really don't want to fail you! Now, it's possible that the F's were posted with "0" in for the finals that he has yet to take, so maybe things are not as bad as they look. But it they are (as bad as they look), I told him that I am done paying anything for it. I guess I won't know until the next term starts, but hopefully in time to avoid paying for the whole term if it comes to that. He should be a B+ student, or even better if he wants to be. He won't talk about his grades, so I have a bad feeling. Yuck.
S21 on the other hand, has spent the last week plus driving a truck around town collecting toys for "Toys for Tots", which is run by the Marines. Since most of the reservists have jobs during the day, and his school is out, he has been doing a lot of daytime stuff. I have a feeling the number of hours is shocking. I don't know that he will get anything out of it other than an "attaboy", and some good feelings, but there are worse things to be doing!
Woke up with some indigestion, don't really know why... Anyway, it seems to be a bit better, I think I will go back to sleep!
