A lot of stuff I'll catch you up on later this week. First thing is my right knee was scoped today, so I'm swollen and heading to PT tomorrow, so wish me luck. It will be GREAT to start PT, but it is going to hurt a bit. I remember the first day when I did my left knee and it wasn't too much fun.
So, I'll catch up with you all later tomorrow or Thursday while I'm at home.
So my knee surgery was a bit more than the scope and clean I thought we were doing as the doctor found more issues once he went inside and addressed them.
I had a lateral release (the outside tendon is cut away a bit to allow the knee cap to set straight instead of off to the side) done as well, which means I'll be on crutches for 2 weeks. It is a bit of a pain, but I'll manage.
I also had a lateral release done on my left knee 2 1/2 years ago, so it may be a genetic thing w/me and my knees. In any event, I'm hoping this rehab will be better than the last and I'll finally be able to get my knees in shape and feel good again.
Other than that, I'm doing ok. Staying off the leg for most of the weekend to avoid swelling and stuff.
Good thing there is a lot of football to keep me company this weekend while I'm laid up.
Had a good Thanksgiving. Knee is sore today and I'm dead tired after experiencing my first ever Black Friday shopping.
I've never been shopping after midnight before and I'm sure I don't want to be sober in a Walmart at 5 am again!
Tonight will be an easy one for me to just stay in and get my rest.
D asked to come and spend some time w/me today b/c I didn't have her due to the surgery, so we hung out for a bit. She's gone now, and I do miss her and wish she'd have stayed the night.
Oh, well. I'm tired anyway, so I'll drift off to sleep pretty soon here I'm sure and be more "exciting" tomorrow.
I have never done the Black Friday shopping. My XW was the one to do that. She even did it this year starting standing in line at 9 pm the night before. Crazy. I do give her credit for getting the kids some computers over the years for under $200.
Sadly, there is no Walmart on the entire west side of Portland.
Ok, my knee is sore today and my calf is as tight as a drum.
I was back on it b/c of practice yesterday and iced it most of the day, but didn't do my "exercises" and now I think I'm paying for it. I'll take it a bit easier today and will actually do my exercises to help w/the discomfort.
I will see my doctor tomorrow afternoon, so I'll have him let me know what he thinks and go from there.
My PT sessions are completely paid by my insurance, which is good, but I still have to put out $50 to see the doctor each time. To top that off, I also have to pay $50 to see the chiropractor b/c my insurance is so poor w/chiropractic care.
The scary thing is I need to go to the chiropractor b/c my neck is so messed up that I've lost the curve in the top of my neck and it now sits straight and is in the early stages of fusing together. I'm developing bone spurs and if I don't get after this now, I'll have a fused neck before I'm 45!
So, my holidays are stressed w/medical payments and bills and I can only hope things will improve over the next few weeks b/c I need to make sure Santa visits my little angel this year!
Ok, went back to my doctor today and he drained a ton of blood and fluid off of my knee. He said doing that along w/my regular therapy and icing will cut out 2-3 weeks of swelling. So, if I've saved myself some time w/a swollen knee, then today's thing was awesome!
In fact, he was surprised when I told him his former partner didn't drain my knee after my last surgery on my left 2 1/2 years ago. He said it should have been done b/c it really speeds up healing and makes the pain go away much, much faster.
So, that was the basic highlight of my day! I did have a dream I was playing golf last night, so I'm guessing I'm jonesing for it now that I can't play it. So.....
...if I can be smart enough to put two and two together, I think I'm telling myself I've been depriving my thirst for golf far too long and will be out there in full force w/the clubs once I'm cleared to swing again.
That is something you can take to the bank...that and the exercising again as I'm finding the urge to do that as well.
So, lessons are being learned as I remember to take care of me again like I should have been doing all along.
If it will be a while before your knees let you golf again, you might want to try a Wii Tiger Woods golf game. It may even come with the feature of a deadly golf-club wielding jealous Swedish model/wife whose specialty is smashing in the rear windows of Escalades with nine irons and then scratching up men’s faces.
