My first Thanksgiving out of the house my MIL invited me to dinner the day before. I had taken advice from reading on here and already had plans to work at local college's thanksgiving dinner for their international students.
Best thing I could have done. My family asked if was ok to invite StBX, I said yes, and he declined.
We have done variations of the 'other side' of the family get togethers for the various holidays, since I WA... sometimes awkward, sometimes just like old times.
It has helped me to remember it's "just a day" & family memories can be made anyday.. they are not calendar dependent.
