Kayaking, canoeing... hey it's all paddling after all :):)
Me... I like both, althouhg haven't done much kayaking ever since I came to canada. Not for the lack of nice places to do it, just that we got a canoe some years back.... - back when there were no ows or affairs - and that's what we've been doing since. Still in hopes of getting a kayak, maybe some day soon.
ANd yes, it is a great workout :)

As for skating well... if you are willing to include rollerblades in the equation I'm all for it. I'm from the age of those old, old ones LOL. Got into it very seriously until I discovered dating hehehe after that well let's just say that my other skating half had to get someone else to practice with..LOL ( he actually ended up with quite a few cups from the european championships )
Now ice skating.... well... I will probably love it, once I actually get into one pair of those. Tried once with my h cousin's skates, that were a few sizes too big. Managed to stand up and start to enjoy it, but the darn things were too big and my feet were halfway out most of the time. kept saying I will try it with the proper size but haven't done so yet. Maybe this winter
Still there is a bit more effort to maintain balance and since it's not a wide base like those old rollerblades I tend to twist my feet. Worth a try though, I used to love the ability to speed away and feel the wind in my face.
You so lucky to have a lake so close by!!! Me green with envy right now! I always function better close to a body of water LOL preferably ocean but lake will do just fine !
