An art appreciation story.

Once when I was in NYC, my friend and mentor decided that I had been there too long without taking in the more cultured side of the city.

So we went to the Metropolitan Musem of Art.
I was pretty cultured prior to this. Reubens, Rafeal all the greats. Saw some amazing works.

Then we went downstairs to the 'modern' art.

And on one wall...

12 frameless canvasses. Each one was one color. Nothing more.
Some...advant guard modernist had basically hung up a color palate. Now I am all for a good scam...but this? Donated to the Museum at a cost of: $50,000.

Seriously?

Can you imagine this shmuck at a dinner party?

"I am almost done with "Girl Eating an Apple" but I am torn between the Periwinkle or the Mauve for the final frame. It is such a conundrum."

That was over 10 years ago and it still rises my gall, so you can only imagine how I reacted in the museum.

My friend quickly esourted me outside, before the nice security guards could. He listen to me rant for the next 10 minutes, and then he asked:

"Art is supposed to evoke emotion, right Jack?"

I shut up.

Missions accomplished.
