Don't worry you are doing well. Remember you are changing a habit that you have been doing for a while. The first step is realizing when it happens, like right after. Second is realizing it while it is happening and changing what you say to go with what TrentC said. Third you start doing this, but thinking hard about it. FInally it becomes second nature. I am in between steps 1 and 2. It takes a while so don't beat yourself up. We all go through these times and learn from them.
He was just drunk texting you because he was miserable and was hoping you were too. Take this more as a good thing because at least he is feeling miserable about where he is. If he is miserable long enough, maybe, just maybe he will get himself help.
