At least gaming is fun. lol

No, they're quite different. Although I may have good memories of the game (and it is possible to build friendships around the game) ultimately the game is a collection of pixels and data. At some point, Blizzard will pull the plug on their servers and my gnome mage and draenei shaman will cease to exist. (And my blood elf paladin, and human rogue, and all the other characters I started but never really did anything with.)

The reason I stopped playing (besides having a bomb dropped on me) was that I found myself saying "I don't want to play anymore" and log out of my gnome mage, only to log in to my shaman and play for another hour or so. It was one thing to keep one character geared; now I was about to start building up a second one. It also meant that I had more options then just being a DPS class -- I was gearing my shaman as a healer, which meant I would have little problem finding a group.

What we're doing here has value. We either end up rescuing a relationship and making it better, or making ourselves better to find someone we deserve to be with if the relationship cannot be saved.
