Be careful on using too much brute force with that shower head - the last thing you want is for the pipe to break inside the wall.
I was wondering a couple weeks ago which of my kids was responsible for getting urine on the floor next to the toilet. I recently found out when walking in to see S9 brushing his teeth with one hand, reading and holding a book with the other hand and taking a pee with no hands. The boy is not ready for such advanced multitasking as he needs to focus more on aim.
So when is Katie going to get out and start dating and building that Harhim? That is how you will get rid of that 19 letter phrase.
Saturate the joint with WD40 or similar penetrating oil, wait five minutes, try again. Yes, you might need a bigger wrench or a longer handle.
Before you install the new shower head be sure the threads are clean. Use cloth or steel wool and a little WD40 to remove the corrosion and crud. Go easy - you don't want to damage the threads. If the threads are badly damaged, stripped, or rusted then you might have to call somebody.
If it's all OK to go then apply teflon tape or gel to both surfaces and screw the new showerhead back on. Tight but not too tight. Turn on the water and check for leaks. Done.

Years ago I broke down and bought the d*mn wrench (pipe wrench) -- because there's no real substitute and gives the proper leverage to make the task oh so much easier.
Once you get it off I suggest using some silicone tape -- especially for metal-on-metal connections. It makes later removal of the showerhead much easier.
Now.. how the FRICK do I get an old shower head off? Is it brute force? I've tried pliers and a regular wrench. I don't have one of those super duper heavy duty ones the size of a small child like plumbers use. Help!
It sounds to me like you were not hitting the shower head hard enough with the wrench. I am sure your inner strength will come out and the shower head will easily come off if you imagine the shower head as your X's head. (This is just a joke and I in no way endorse violence against your ex spouse)
Seriously, having the right tools for the job is important. Renting the tools may be an option. Even paying the plumber to do it right might be cheap than breaking the pipe in the wrong spot and having to pay the plumber to fix more issues....

I have been without a tub for close to a year - I saw a leak behind the handle. My BIL was visiting, so he came over to look at it. He took it off, put on some of that tape stuff, then put it back on. Too tight. The inner thread pieces were all white plastic, and the stupid thing snapped right off. I have to bring the part back to Home Depot and get a replacement ordered - not a priority, so there it sits. We use the shower in my bathroom.
Wish I had called someone! I've decided that is what alimony is for...
My son's first girlfriend died of a heart attack at twenty two earlier this month. I ran into her at the hospital where I volunteer this summer where she was training to be a nurse. The smile, the twinkling brown eyes.. gone.
