Tonight should be weird. I haven't seen Gabe for more than a couple of minutes at a time since the D but will be spending about 2 hours with him this evening. UGH!

As you know from my previous posts, Marc has to pass his 10 minute drill for karate 2 times by today. Monday night he failed it (did it in 10:43). He was disappointed and upset and said he would try again Tuesday night. Gabe was going to pick him up early so he could make the attempt before regular class started. I was rushing around yesterday afternoon so didn't get home until almost 6pm and had to be back out the door t 6:30p for bible study. Imagine my surprise when at 6:15p I heard Marc rattling around in his room. I thought he was gone with his dad! He told me that Gabe had to work late (very strange since he works at a supermarket in the deli and they don't ever extend hours unless there is some sort of emergency staffing problem) but would still be able to pick him up for his regular class time.

So, on my way to bible study, I sent Gabe a text asking him WTH happened. He said that Marc was supposed to call him when he was done with his homework and he never had. Uh oh! Busted! Marc is telling stories to each of us because he didn't want to go and fail his test again. I called Marc and called BS on him. He admitted he was pretty much giving up. I told Gabe what had transpired and asked him to step in and see what he could do.

Imagine my surprise when he actually acted like a dad and talked at length to Marc about just giving up versus at least trying and possibly failing. OMG! Who is this man and where did he come from? smile After bible study I got a text from Gabe.....9:43!!! Marc passed it last night and now just has to pass again tonight.

More communication problems had occurred this week with us apparently because I had asked him Sunday if he was working Wednesday night. He said he was. I told him I was also working Wednesday night and the only way Marc was going to have a chance to pass his test by that day would be if I could find him a ride to class. Gabe said that was true and left it at that. Surprise, surprise...last night he told me that he would take Marc to karate tonight. Um, excuse me? You said you had to work. I managed to give my shift away for tonight so I could take Marc if he needed to try the test again. He claims he never said he worked Wednesday night. Nope, he gets off work at 4pm. Uh huh, so how is that working Wednesday night? Whatever! He says he must have gotten the days mixed up when he told me that Sunday. Grrrrr.........

Long story, I know, I should have shortened it but I'm thinking it may give someone a laugh to see how communication in my world goes. Since Gabe and I are both off tonight we are meeting up at the karate studio to be there in support of Marc. I really don't want to be around him for 2 whole hours but it's for Marc so I'll suck it up. I'm not going to like it one bit though. Just seeing him for a couple of minutes is usually enough to send me into a nosedive. I hope I can maintain my newfound semi-happy state. It's tenuous.

OMG! Kids! Seriously! Yeah, mine is getting SUPER DANGEROUSLY CLOSE (11/26) to his 15th birthday and a learner's permit. I already told him that with his grades he is not getting it, but he's determined anyway.

Quote:
y dad y?

HA! Why what? Why does she get to make the rules or why are they stupid? smile

Did he give you any examples of what he considers stupid?

Wow! So glad he is stepping up a little in his role as father!

It's 15 to get a learner's permit out there? That's a little scary. Here you have to be within 6 months of your 16th birthday, and even that is pretty scary lol.

No examples...
I sent back "To make you be good!", never got another.

I expect it's little things, like doing his school work, maybe walking the dog. I really have a feeling it is things he would do anyway. I am sure I will hear more about it!

His birthday is 10/21, but he can't get his permit til fifteen and a half. So we are all safe for another six months! He looks too little to drive!

Here it's 15 and they have to have their permit 1 year before they can get their DL. When they get their DL after the 1 year on the learner's then they can not drive with anyone outside of their immediate family in the car for another year (or it might be 6 months..haven't checked that out yet). So, they can kill all their siblings, just not someone else's kids. smile

Here you can't drive in the car with anyone under 25, nor after dark, not a lot of things, til you are 18.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Those teenage drivers scared me even when I was one of them! Lol.

I don't recall all the rules in Iowa, but I know you get your learner's permit at 14--that is when you can drive with a parent or other adult over 25.

You get your driver's license at 16 as long as you complete a driver's education course. Then you can drive whomever you want, including your friends! smile

Of course being a rural state in most parts, we also have a "school permit"--if you are 14 1/2 and live more than 1 mile from your school, you can get a license to drive WITHOUT an adult, to and from school and school-sponsored activities (ball practice, band practice etc.). The license is valid from 5 am to 10 pm....

That's right, a 14 year old in a car unsupervised... eek
