Sounds like you handled things very well! I think from how you described the email it seemed very appropriate. If you felt something should be said then that was a good way to do it and not be enabling for this situation.
I'm in agreement about compliments! No such thing as too much honest compliments. Don't forget to also compliment her on things she stands for, strengths, and signs of the qualities you fell in love with. LHF and Other sources say to 'catch her doing good things'....and be quiet about the negative stuff (although there might be cases where you need to carefully state your feelings...Patience, yes but nobody should be walked on and be expected to not state their feelings)
Hang in there! The positive side of her going out is that she will see how many slimy guys are out there that can't hold a candle to you!!
