Wished it would have worked out better for you. In a detach article on this site it lists a lot of reasons relationships turn toxic. One that especially applied to me and sounds like it applies to you is that one spouse works extra hard because the other is emotionally unavailable to them.
My W has always had this wall up that I can't break through. It sounds like that's your situation as well.
