I had a feeling that he'd reach back out to you real quick. Maybe he does need some time to think about things on his own. He does sound insecure about whether you really could love him or not again(maybe because secretly he realizes he's been a big jerk to you? Who knows?)
No advice but it sounds like he's very emotional right now and will need careful handling by you.
