Witnessing here, how many WAWs are either on drugs for depression or have H's (and others) who think they should be, has gotten me thinking about why this is so pervasive. I mean, obviously we are just treating symptoms for a lot of people when there are likely broader social implications given the prevalence. Not that modern society will likely do anything about it but it is interesting to explore.

I just read the following article which touches on this issue-

Thoughts?

Very interesting article. I wish I could send it to W, but it would not be a good idea right now.

Thanks.

Paradox:

Men and Women driving toward parity, duplicity and convergence in roles

vs.

Men and Women define happiness, success, self, etc. in very different ways.

Yes, I agree.

Kind of sad that with all of our "progress," there is not a corresponding increase in reported happiness.

And, of course, when a majority of people need drugs in order to function within a certain paradigm, it might be time to examine the paradigm and not just the individuals.

Men and women are obviously quite different and the drive to disprove that seems to be destructive and counter-productive.

Agreed! However, the differences have not been appreciated and respected in the past. We may have to get to a place where there is functional parity before we then get to respect and equality.

BTW. you know I don't believe anything I read on these neo-liberal media outlets like huffington post ;-)

I'll try to find it on Drudge for ya...may take me a while. wink

Then again, they may like to infer that women would be better off at home making dinner and watching the kids.

I guess sometimes things do have to got to an extreme for lessons to be derived and a balance struck.

Yep! I've confirmed it on foxnews.com. Women belong at home. Problem solved.

This starts getting close to O'dogs problem without a solution trying to determine where to draw the line between "illness/disorder" and "that's just life".

And it's not just O'dog's tiny universe in question. On a macro scale there is controversy raging about whether illnesses/disorders are overreported or underdiagnosed.

just one example:

No, not everyone. Just people in the good 'ol USA.

http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/factsheets/index.cfm#factDepression

A World Health Organization Study on the prevalence of mental disorders in 14 countries shows that the number of adults who experience a mental disorder during any 12month period ranges from 4.3% to 26.4% depending on the country. Countries that reported the  highest rates were:

• The United States of America – 26.4%
