I am also going through this with a close friend. We went for lunch last week. It brings back a lot for me as well but I must say - it is easier to be where I am now and caution her not to make the same mistakes that I did (MANY). She keeps saying "He left me in a post-it note"> The pain for her is intense. But it is good to be the one who can provide the understanding ear.
