2 people can't fit in most sleeping bags.

A short aside about how I know this...

Years ago while camping in the snow with temperatures well below freezing, a woman that was on the trip (part of a group of friends) accidentally opened a water bottle in her sleeping bag. She had it there to keep it from freezing over night. It got her bag wet, which then started freezing around her. She went into hypothermic shock, became incoherent, etc. - really pretty scary.

I tried the standard survival advice which say's to put her in my own sleeping bag with me, and found that, even though she was small, the two of us just would not fit. Luckily there were more than just two of us on the trip, and we ended up surviving the night and saving her by using 2 sleeping bags for 3 people. A second woman who was on the trip and I zipped our sleeping bags together, and put the hypothermic girl in the middle between us. She came around, we counted the hours until the sun came up, and we were able to hike her out the next day.
