I have to agree w/you saying that women have a much keener "sense" of what's really going on.
For example, if you read in NewComer's, you'll find many men who state their wife is doing x,y, and z; and saying a, b, and c; and someone asks about the possibility of OM and these guys go ape$hit.
"Not MY wife, MY wife would NEVER do that", and on and on and blah, blah, blah.
And then Gucci chimes and and says: "I wouldn't bet on it". And then six months later, the man is posting that his wife is having an A. But only an EA, not a PA -- and then one month later, it IS a PA. Gee, what a shocker!!!
But you rarely see such posts from W's regarding their H's.
