I don't know the answer, either, but I don't think you can go wrong by waiting for a few days. Then it gets a bit trickier. I am worried that he is asking you to lie. Which is pretty selfish on his part. It might be one of those "victimless" crimes, but it isn't at all right for him to put you in that kind of situation.
