I am glad things are going so well with NGF. And very good that your daughter likes her as well.
As far as thinking about the past/ex, I would say that makes you human. You can spend so much time with someone, fall in love, build a life, have a child, and then just shut it off. Well, some people say they have done so, but I don't know how! Doesn't mean you have to go 'back there', but thinking about it from time to time is ok, in my book.
I was thinking about you today actually, wondering how that was going with NGF. My D3 is developing a love for horses, too.
