I think you should do something extra nice for him to show your appreciation. Something special he would really like. Be sure to give him lots of praise (if that's the right word sounds a bit patronising but you know what I mean) for doing this. It must be quite hard for him and it sounds like he is doing it for you, which is really sweet of him. Hey I hope this is going to have a happy ending.
