Glioblastomia Mutiforme Stage 4..I hate those words..they make me angry..they make me [censored] mad.
I figured dad would die of a heart attack or have a stroke in his sleep..or maybe just be taken really quick in a car wreck or something..it would have been hard but not like this..
this [censored] sucks donkey dicks...
dad is 6'4"..he weighed around 245 last November...he's down about 195 now.....skin hanging off him..unable to do anything due to the last two weeks of radiation and chemo absolutely reducing him to a shell of what he was...moved him into the livving room in a hospital bed just to be able to better manage him...a urinary tract infection and thrush/thrash infection from the chemo pills....very little immunity to fight even the simpliest infection...thrush..something babies get..a simple yeast infection which pretty much limits what he can eat or drink due to his throat being sore...reduced to wearing diapers like a baby...a loss of dignity for him and it pains me deeply..
and I am really pissed about it...
I got a call at 1:00am last night..dad needed to use the bathroom but was unable to help get himself up to use it..I stumble over...and my older sister and I help him...I do the heavy lifting and pretty much manhandle him...he can not understand simple commands if more than one person is talking at a time..his legs are unable to support his weight due to the infections...
he looked at me one time last night and what I was was blankness..nothing in his eyes..liked he zoned out..like he was looking through me..his balance sucks..he's weak
this [censored] sucks...
he goes back to the neuro today to look at the lastest pictures...
and just guessing..I'd say it's all back..
sometimes I wish he would just go...and when I wish that I feel guilty..
I had a grand total of about 2 hours sleep last night...
It's frustrating, sucks and makes no sense - all rolled into one.
I hope things go well at the neuro - the current symptoms could be other stuff - like after affects of the chemo/radiation. Both of those are potent and he just finished, last week? His body needs to recover.
However, if he's over at the hospital today, is it possible to see one of his Oncology docs? He does have something going on - dehydration, malnutrition, something systemic from what you're describing. The neuro guy may help, but may not if you present him with the symptoms and it's not of neurological origin.
That's my first gut reaction. Not that it grew through treatment. Keep me posted.
Chemo took a lot out of my MIL and yes, yeast infections and all as it does wear down the immune system and liver, heck pretty much all organs become effected if the dose is too high or exceeds 6 months of therapy in her case, as with others I have talked to with similar situations.
Definately once hydrated and the chemo wears off, you should see some improvement.

Wow. My uncle is going through the same thing. I suspect, about the same age, as well. I see my aunt "handling" the same issues as you. UT infections, thrash/thrush, extreme loss of weight, dehydration, loss of ability to go to the restroom on his own, diapers, etc... Her daily mantra is "one day at a time..."
I'll be praying for your Dad. And, I'll ask her about any words of wisdom, ideas, etc... My uncle is a diabetic, as well.

The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because the average man can see better than he can think.
He has a urinary tract infection...he has thrush/thrash..he was dehydrated...all diagnosed by emergency room doctors this past Sunday....
so yes..there are other things going on..I know..and yes..he finished last week..
so..should he at some point regain some strength?? or is it all downhill from here..
are the infections he has along with the chemo/radiation..just making him physically weak..or is this just a sign of things to come?
As others have stated, all of this is the result of a compromised immune system. I wish chemo would just go in and take out the tumor, but there is a lot of collateral damage.
Patient's do regain strength. It is not down hill from here. He does need some guidance from his medical team to help him recover right now. That will determine how quickly he bounces back.
You know where to find me if you need me real time.
WT..neuro..says that there is a Rhind?? around the tumor that is collapsing inward and most times the rhind expands outward?? she says she is pleased beyond pleased with his response to treatment..gave him a mouthwash to use for the thrush in addition to what they gave him at Emergency room..also gave him another antibiotic..also decided to restart steriod regimen of 4 pills a day and said steriods may make infections stay a little longer but she thought he needed something that would help him get his strength back a little faster...
so..my sister said it sounded real positive from neuro...she said it's not a cure but is very positive and very rare for the rhind to collapse inward??
