After being almost 2 years at this, I think it was his way of coping with his decisionand the consequences. He couldnt allow himself to let his guard down around me or let my words affect him because that would mean he would be having second thoughts.
When he did start having second thoughts, the first thing that changed was his eyes, the way he looked at me. If you read stories here you will find this is a common characteristic of WASs.
