As far as the don't believe what they say and half they do statement, it goes along the lines of saying things we regret when fighting etc.
When we as humans are in pain or angry we can say and do some pretty brutal things. So the exercise is water on a ducks back as this helps to keep you from getting sucked in and saying or doing the same hurtful things.
It's about positive change so try and stay the course. It's definately hard but look at the angry alternative.
