True, Wow! You've had a lot going on in the last week or so! I'm glad things have settled down w/your neighbor. You know, you could always ask him for some ideas as well as others about your yard/garden. It might flatter him that you asked. Nothing says you need to do what he suggests.
I'm glad you spoke to your xmil. It's good to know that she's had contact w/your xh. She's right about a lot of things and he really does need to get over it and soon.
I think it's great that the guy rang you up. I do hope he stays in touch w/you. It's nice to have some "male" company every now and then. Two masts? That's very odd, but who knows...it could be a very nice sail boat and he's calling it a dinghy. You should him that you were no fool about sailing!
