I remember decorating May poles as a child and dancing around them until some parent complained that it was a pagan festival and it shouldn't be celebrated (this was in the 70's in California - ummm...hello....can you say liberal capital of the country? Of course, I lived in ultra-conservative Orange County). It was sad when we didn't do that anymore.
