D17 Promzilla Update:

GOOD NEWS! D17 made Prom Court! Wahooo! This is cute because she's only been at her high school since second semester Junior year. (She wanted to go to a public high school. Talked us into it. Didn't go well... Much like her Mom; a little too social, a little too focused on fun instead of school, a little too interested in anything that was "almost" crossing the line!) We transferred her kicking and screaming to the Lutheran High School within the system where my boys go to Elementary/Junior High. She LOVES it now. Go figure!

BAD NEWS! Her Prom Date got expelled yesterday! I can't believe it. HORRIBLY unfair situation, and, yes, I've had to get involved! ;\) This is a DARLING, honest, sweet, (ok, slightly cocky), HOT, young man, who is an incredibly gifted athlete, decent student, and contributing member of their class. He is/was also on Prom Court. Apparently, "someone" reported to the office that he was involved in gang activities. You would LAUGH your AS*ES off if you knew him, and heard this. NO WAY. So, they asked to search his (family) car in the parking lot. He said, "Stupid, but no problem." Well, they found nothing in the car, but found fireworks (legal) in his trunk. He didn't even know they were in there. His family shuffles around two cars between three drivers. His Dad had them in there from the prior weekend that they had taken them to a property they have in Northern WI to light off. The school administration didn't even listen to his parents (or him), and had his stuff gathered and in a bag when they arrived. Police wrote him a $100 ticket since he was under 18 for possession of fireworks. And, the school EXPELLED HIM! I can't believe it. So, as of last night, he can't graduate from his school with his class, but may be able to finish school at a public high school (3 weeks left). HOWEVER, he has a full ride scholarship to Valpo! And, if you are expelled, even if you indeed graduate, it is null and void.

I've already written my letter! I'm on the school BOD! And, I'm ticked!

I totally agree with a punishment, even if he didn't know they were there, since it's in the parent/student handbook. But, the offense in the handbook shows suspension, NOT expulsion.

Talk about a broken spirit. Poor kid!
