The place is located inside of a mall. I arrived a little early and parked at the opposite end. After about 15 minutes I received a call from her asking where I was. She and the kids were waiting in the food court right outside the office.
I said, I'm sitting inside waiting for you. "Oh. I didn't see your car out there." (I know, did you think I was going to let you park your new car next to mine so I could ooh and ahh over it when we left?? Sorry I've learned my lesson and thought ahead this time. )
Anyway, her and the kids came through the door and I heard a simultaneous "Daddy!!" The each ran over and gave me a hug. A couple of people smiled and commented. This seemed to embarrass her.
When our number was called I handed the woman my ID then continued to play with the kids. Nothing over the top just hugging them and making them laugh. Again this seemed to bother Miss G, even to the point that she turned and gave us a look when my son was laughing right as the lady helping us was trying to explain something to her.
I was upbeat but very distant toward her. I focused on the kids and that was it. I said absolutely nothing about her new car.
When it came time to leave she asked again "where are you parked?" I pointed and simply said waaaay down that way. I hugged and kissed the kids said my goodbye's and was on my way.
She looked a little rough and I could tell that she was bothered by me not really paying much attention to her. I was distant not to get a reaction or to be a jerk. I was just being real.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'll always be this way. She's got some work to do if she ever want's anything more than she got from me last night.
