The trip to visit my MIL is turning out to be pretty stressful - as can be expected since all 5 of us (me, W, S6, S4, and S10mths) are staying in a hotel room. Of course, S10mths got an ear infection and isn't sleeping, so neither are we.
My W has not told her family what is going on between us, so things are still very comfortable between them and me - a good chance for me to shine. It is also good, because it indicates to me that my W is not burning the bridges to reconciliation.
One small success: my SIL's and MIL were all making a big deal over me (new distinguished-looking beard, tanned from being outside, lost weight etc) and asked my W point blank "Don't you think he looks great!". As expected, she replied with only a small sheepish smile and a shrug of her shoulders and then looked away from the whole scene, but it made me feel really good.
