Breton, don't pay attention to the scales when you first start working out.Its not uncomon to have a weight gain like that. Reason being, your muscles will soak up water since you are tearing them down. Muscles will retain water as well. Another thing is this, you will be gaining lean muscle mass, which will put weight on you, but its good weight. Example, I weigh 260 lbs. but I wear a size 34-36 pants. I only stand 6'1 as well. Don't worry about the bodyweight, concentrate on the bodyfat!
