Family and friends often have biased responses. They don't want to see you hurt anymore because it makes them uncomfortable...so they want you to do something that will end your suffering so they won't be uncomfortable anymore. Even if it means you making a mistake and doing something that you really don't want to do. Don't take what they say to heart. My understanding is that 'detatching' isn't about giving up or moving on. It's about deciding not to be so bothered by your situation anymore, and continuing to live and get better and stronger and work on yourself and learn, and take the best care of your kids that you can, etc.
