Great baby steps that he invited you out and came by for dinner and did the papers!!!!!
Just remember, no expectations.
IF he did end it with Helen, he needs to mourn and be okay on his own. He needs to realize he is complete on his own, and choose to come back to you cuz he wants to, not out of loneliness.
