Just another good note. STBX has refused to file taxes jointly. End result: She gets a $3600 refund, and I get $157!
This can't end soon enough, but I will not go to the mat. I agreed to a hideous "pendente lite" agreement, which has me paying more than before I cut back on her.
Hi FLTC, sorry to read about the crappy situation with your STBX. Hope you'll be able to drop the "STB" part soon and move on with your life, and that you get a fair deal financially. Good luck to you and your children.
Me 30 WAW 28 Married 7, together 10 3 daughters: 6,5,and 2 Bomb dropped: 11/08 Divorced: 1/09
P.S. In your divorce settlement make sure next year YOU get the children as deductions (I assume she counted the house and the children in order to get a bigger tax return).
Have you thought about getting a second opinion on your divorce? Consulting with several reputable lawyers during the divorce process is common and helpful because they act as a sounding board, can give some direction, is confidential and lets you know how your lawyer is doing. Parrino out of Westport is very expensive but as a consult could give you an idea of what is fair, what can be attained.
I love your sense of humor but am so sorry about its core.
*hugs*
Oh yes.. my lawyer went through my bill ($40K just for me!) and felt comfortable signing off on $820. Although it's not a huge number it shows how much personal risk a LAWYER is willing to take when providing documentation after the fact.
Consider asking your lawyer to break out the fees as tax advice and legal counsel.

In a weird twist,my attorney wants to meet with STBXs attorney and SmarmyLawyerBossParamourAttorney. He wants to use the meeting as leverage in alimony decision. He is under the impression that the affair is on the "down low" and that Smarmy wants to keep it that way from all of the other attorneys in his office that STBX manages, not to mention his wife! He wants to tell Smarmy that he may need to be deposed! Could backfire, but seems like a bold move.
Smarmy probably has been anticipating this potential move.. but oh my goodness, it's amazing what a lawyer can ask for prior to a deposition in a subpoena! The Jeep is a good one.
If you're committed to going to trial, you go in prepared. If Smarmy lies (and is caught it in it) does he lose his license?
It's funny in an odd way. Your spouse is the OW in her relationship with Smarm. Wonder what the light of day would do in that situation?
