Have any of you been to the 'Just for Fun' thread off the main index of these boards? It seems as though a number of people organize their own get togethers around the country...I was wondering if any of you have been to one, and what are they like? Seems these people are a close knit bunch, just wondering, especially from those of you who participate in more than one thread...
There is one every year in Tampa...hosted by "Hopeful" that I have been to, on two occasions Corri. Lots of fun and lots of great people. It always draws a big crowd. The last one I went to had people from England, Canada and as far away as Washington State. To date there have been 3 couples formed via this board, that I know of. Two living in sin....lucky! One couple got married last October. I've probably met as many 50 people who have posted to Michele's board at some time or another. Have made several very good friends who will probably be in my life forever. If you ever get the chance to go to one of these events it's worth the effort. Cathy
Well my husband I survived the couples golf tournament, 13 over par, winning 2nd place out of 38 couples. We usually can play better than this playing our own game, but oh well. There were comments about how they would have marriage counsellors on the turn and divorce attorneys after 18, and after the round the spouses were b!tching about how they hit their career drive 100 yards from the hole, only to watch aghast as their partner shanked the ball out of bounds. Such is GOLF (Gentleman Only Ladies Forbidden).
As Charles Barkely once said (this seems to fit into your thread and this forum), golf and sex are the only "sports" where you can be bad at it and still have a lot of fun.

I've been to a couple of get togethers - camping in Ohio in July and I'm going to Virgnia Beach in a couple of weeks. I have met some great people - people I hope will be friends forever or at least for a long, long time! At the very least I had a lot of fun and have some wonderful memories.
There's still a couple of openings left for Virgnia if you're interested. It would be cool to meet you.
And you know what they say.....Virginia is for lovers......I thought that was kind of appropriate for this thread!
Congrats on your placement and surviving the round in tact! My H and I play golf together, but we've been doing it long enough now that he will only offer up advice if I ask him...which does not keep him from asking, "Do you want me to tell you what you are doing wrong?" NO!!!

Thanks for dropping a line! So do people ever go as couples to these get togethers? I'm from Ohio actually, and I saw that there may be another get together being organized for regional people again soon?
Don't think I can make it to VA with the short notice, but I"m going to keep an eye on that board, now that I know it's there...I think it would be really cool to meet some people from here! Drop a line if you hear of anything after VA, would you?
Corri, there is a lot of hanging out done. A lot of drinking, eating, talking about everything under the sun. What amazed me was that, the one thing that brought us all together was rarely mentioned. It was not a gathering of people hashing and venting over their relationships. It was like taking a break from the chaos and putting all the mess away for a few days.
I don't believe I've ever been around a happier group of people. Fools too, fools one and all who know how to have a good time. You would fit right in.
Think I might go start a thread on that forum. We had one going a couple of years ago called "The WTF Club" as in what the f*#k happened. No relationship talk, just laughs. Anyone care to join me? Cathy
Some do go as couples. Some bring their GF or BF along with them. Either way we have a lot of fun.
Sorry you can't make it to VA.
There's a camping trip coming up in Pennsylvania in October. How close are you to the border?
By the way, Cathy, I checked out your thread in Just For Fun. That is great!
And if you're looking for somewhere to go where people can chat and goof around and have fun, but you don't want to travel too far....come check out the DB chatroom. There's a regular group of us in there that joke around all the time. But sometimes we're serious too. Depends on the mood. Just like on the threads. But, beware, you never know who will show up there.....
Anyone is more than welcome to come join us in the hot tub for a chat. Any takers????
