you guys definitely are strong women! I've never done one that was longer than 10 days, and even then it wasn't a fast, it was a cleanse.

You guys rock!!

Well, with D9 living back home, I had to modify my fast from what i wanted to do. So, I am fasting liquids all through the day and eating half portions of whatever I cook for dinner. D9 is not a good eater and she uses the argument that if I am not eating, shy does she have to. I think having kids at certain ages makes certain fasts a lot more difficult to do. So, I will be fasting liquids all day and eating a small dinner every night from now until DH comes home, but still doing a water fast the day before the ship comes in.

UUUGGGHHH!!!

I need to vent, and who better than to my friends.

S3 has been sick for longer than I care to think about. Honestly, I think we are going on almost a month now. He has some sort of a tummy virus, I think. He has woke up 4 or 5 nights this past week in the middle of the night or early morning, and thrown up all over his bed. I am down here again at o-dark-thirty washing sheets, cause he just did it again.

The doctors told me it is a stomach virus that is making its rounds, but if that is the case, why is he not getting sick at any other time during the day? He is literally fine all day long, once he wakes back up. There is no temperature, nothing. Of course, I have limited his intake of milk, so he is drinking a lot of juice, especially apple juice, and water which is giving him diarrhea. I am seriously considering taking him over to the children's hospital today, since the doctor could not find anything wrong with him. It just seems to me to be a mighty strange virus that comes and goes on whim.

So, my day has already started. I am going to call my mom in a couple hours and ask her to take the little girls to church, so I can keep him home. I do not want to risk other people's kids getting sick because the doctors do not know what is wrong with mine.

My praying friends, please throw out a few extra for S3 to feel better, and for my patience to be renewed. I am tired physically and mentally from lack of sleep and no answers.

SMW--

hope you don't mind a little nurse advice--several years in pediatrics. Have you heard of the BRAT diet? Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. Yes, the apple juice is probably giving him diarrhea. Go to the brat diet, maybe some gatorade watered down a little(you can even make gatorade popsicles).

yes, there's definitely a GI virus going around. But he shouldn't be sick for a month, that's for sure. Kids do tend to get sick more at night, just because of circadian rhythms. Once he's doing okay with the brat diet, move on to noodles (chicken noodle soup is always good), chicken (not fried--boiled or roasted is good, tho, maybe one of those rotisserie chickens), potatoes if he'll eat them not fried. You might try giving him one antacid tablet before going to bed (tums, rolaids, or generic--they taste pretty good these days) and see if that helps.

Nothing more exhausting than a child vomiting in bed several nights in a row! So there's some pediatric nurse advice, along with some prayers for his recovery and your peace of mind.

Hey Strong & Marvelous \:\) I hit send on a prayer for your son's healing and your spirit - as much at risk at this time as anything else. Getting worn out physically is going to chip away at your spiritual resolve and your attitude in general. Guard yourself and make the time to rest.
Cheers ~~~

HM--

I don't mind the advice at all! Thank you for reinforcing that I was doing the right things already. he is the youngest of four, so I have ran the gamut of childhood illnesses and am well familiar with the BRAT diet. I ended up having a long conversation with the pediatrician and his nurse. The conclusion we came to is that he is really not getting sick from a tummy virus, but instead it is a result of the recurrent ear infections and cold he has had most of the winter. All the mucus draining down his throat is triggering his gag reflex and that is what is causing him to throw up. We altered the position of the mattress and his pillow, and sure enough, no vomiting in two nights! He is also waking up more pleasant in the morning.

He has tolerated all of his food really well the past couple of days, but he was doing that before. I was able to cut back on the juice, which will take care of the diarrhea, too.

Thank you again for all of the advice! It helped ease my mind that I was doing the right things. the prayers were much welcomed, too.
