GMAN- Great progress so far! Dropping from 250-215 is a great step! If you want to build muscle, I think you need to do a couple of things. First, a high protien diet, at least 1 gram of protien per bodyweight, up your water intake and hit the free weights. Don't mess with the machines!!! Stick to the basic core lifts squat, bench press, and dead lift. Don't worry about the weight to start. Work on proper form and technique, the pounds will come!! I understand about time restrictions! I lift every morning at 5:00 AM. Its the only time I can get in there!! I would start at 3 or 4 sets of 6 until I got the technique and form down, then start doing wave cycles 4-8 weeks worth with a couple of auxillary lifts per core. As for the eliptical being the best fat burner, well that is a matter of opinion. I personally think its AS GOOD. I use it myself, if you think you have plateaued your weight loss, try some HITT Cardio. Basically what that means is one minute of sprinting as hard as you can and 2 minutes of light to moderate jogging. Do that for 30 minutes 4 to 5 days a week. Hope that helps!! Any other questions, please ask!!
Breton, good deal!!! Keep it up!! Don't quit!! Sometimes it will get tough, you will get sore, but keep your eyes on the brass ring! If you do, I promise, you will be a lean, hard-toned woman in less than a year!! Age doesn't matter! Don't let anyone tell you any different! I'm 41 years old, have a 50 inch chest, 36 inch waist, 19 inch arms, and can make guys half my age throw up in the weight room! LOL Not to mention, I catch the eyes of women and young women alike. I'm not narsacistic, nor a player, but it does make you feel good! You will do the same with men!!
Arms without weights- Hmmm...... That;s a little tougher. Is there any way you can get some hand held dumbells? They sell them at walmart, pretty cheap too. If not, pushups, curling things around the house, tricept extensions with things around the house. That one makes it a little harder! LOL
Awesome Braveheart! Thanks you for the info! Kinda curious on you opinion about the machines. Are they just not a good idea?
Just want to say to anyone reading this thread and participating in it KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! If your considering going to a gym JUST DO IT!!! You'll feel ten times better, look better, and feel great!

GMAN, My opinion of machines is this; THEY SUCK!!! I mean that for both men and women!! Women have a misconception of free weights. They believe that if they lift hard they will look like a brute and unfemine and all of that. Truth is, free weights are the best way to look like a hard body bad to the bone chic!! LOL Ladies, the only way you will get big bulky muscles is if you consume a lot of lean protien. Building quality size is not about lifting, its DIET!!! Don't be afraid of free weights, they are your best friend in building your body!!! Keep up the good work GMAN!!!

BH, I do have some little handheld ones. So what do I do with them to tone up arms fast?
Also, I a little worried about the exercise bike because my knee hurts--same side of the body that I had so much trouble with.
I have never had knee problems.
I decided to take it easy today and do some yoga instead. Will get back on bike tomorrow.
Breton, what pound dumbells do you have? Toning and strengthening doesn't come fast, it takes time, you have to work at it in order to reap the best rewards. As for your knee hurting because of the exercise bike, I will let the DR. Check it out. Your knee shouldn't hurt on a bike.
