This was so cute I had to share but I can't tell S16. A couple of days ago he found out that his friend has a job at one of his favorite fast food restaurants, so he is starts saying that he should have applied there. I told him I could take him on Wednesday.
I was acquainted at one time with the owner so I thought I would go there at lunch time and get his app. and talk to the owner. Turns out he sold it back to corporate but they are hiring. Anyway we take up his application but they don't have time to review it.
Less than 2 hours later (and while I am washing the girls hair), S16 throws open the door and says "I got the job!! I got the job!!" I said that's great but they didn't even talk to you...He says oh, that is what he is wanting, me to come by tomorrow and talk to him. I said tell the guy you can be there at such and such a time and see if Dad can take you. In the mean time the girls are squealing because their brother "got the job". The whole time he was still on the phone with the manager!!!
When he hung up the phone, he comes up to me and says, "I guess I shouldn't have shouted I got the job while I was still on the phone, huh?" It was so sweet to see him so excited. I really hope he gets it but I do wonder how long he will stay excited.

My first thought is how cute is that? I bet the manager hires him for sure! I can just picture your whole family--I bet the manager was tickled by that! Karen
He is kind of down because he didn't get offered the job on the spot. When they called, we tried to see if we could find any interview appropriate clothes. The dress shirt were either too small or too big and it was getting late and I was broke(I got my fed today, so I have money for a weekend!). Anyway he still wore a presentable shirt and nice dark jeans.
The manager made some comment about that. Also S16 was kind of flustered when he was asked about transportation. He will use the bus or we will get him there, one way or another. But the guy asked if he had his license or if he had a car and that made S16 not so sure since we have to work on the car I am going to let him drive.
Either way it was a good experience for him and we will just build on that. Oh and the fact we are going to buy dress clothes tonight!

Kudos to your son! I wish him luck. Like you said, it is a good lesson either way it goes. He got valuable experience applying for the job.
Did the manager say anything negative about his clothes? Too me with it being a fastfood restaurant the main thing was being neat and cleancut looking and presenting yourself in a positive way. I'm sure your son did all of these things. I wouldn't think it would be necessary to wear dress clothes to an interview. Lots of times fastfood workers wear uniforms anyway.

I was happy I convinced not to wear one of his Rock shirts that have skulls and stuff on them!!:)
Yeah, the guy said something about him not dressing up. I know fast food!! Waht are they thinking??

The manager sounds a little you know? Maybe he doesn't have a lot of experience hiring yet or something? If he doesn't hire him for something like that, maybe he's a really picky type or something that would be hard to work for, so maybe a blessing in disguise? And yeah, it's great he got that valuable experience too. And today btw is the first time I ever got a job and found out right away and I think it's b/c I knew the guy doing the hiring or he wouldn't have. I think that's pretty standard to call if you get the job in a while or send a letter if he didn't? Karen
Ex said that the manager looked really young, not much older than S16. He asked S16 if he knew why they were closed on Sundays and I think he hesitated a bit. Nothing like trying to mix religion with your job!
I knew the answer but that didn't do s16 a whole lot of good huh? Ex also said the guy sounded like a bit of a jerk but it may be his first oppurtunity to be a GM and being young and from another part of the country can make you come off a bit different I think. If S16 doesn't hear anything, I will have him call on Monday and do a follow up to see if he had made a decision.
kat ps, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey Kat! That is really cute. At 16 its just good to see them excited about anything that doesn't pertain to the opposite sex or teenage stuff. Maybe he could call tomorrow and thank the manager for his time interviewing him. My MIL has always had me send a thank you note or even an email, thanking the interviewers for their time and asking for any insight that they might have to improve my skills anytime I interview. Even if you don't get the job, it leaves an impression on them. I can also say that I have only been hired on the spot and known about it once in my life, so waiting is pretty standard.
Make you sweat a little.
Just wanted to drop you a little note and let you know I still read these days, just haven't been posting much. ((((hugs))))
