Kudos to your son! I wish him luck. Like you said, it is a good lesson either way it goes. He got valuable experience applying for the job.

Did the manager say anything negative about his clothes? Too me with it being a fastfood restaurant the main thing was being neat and cleancut looking and presenting yourself in a positive way. I'm sure your son did all of these things. I wouldn't think it would be necessary to wear dress clothes to an interview. Lots of times fastfood workers wear uniforms anyway.
