Thanks Pearl - hope your weekend was a blast! PMD/Best Dad - can't find a better plan!

It is funny to see how a guilty conscience works:
Being as I am currently dark - I thought about something, and decided to do it. W used to have this MRDD patient that was about 45 years old, but probably 3-4 years old in mind. He took a liking to her, and would come up and hug her, and just loved her.
He died Sunday or early Monday. Kids were supposed to go to a lunch with W's school friends and their kids, but I found out they didn't.
Me: "I was so sorry to hear about *patient*. I know he was your buddy."
W: "I canceled my lunch with my friends and was *patient's place*"
Me: "What?" (wasn't expecting that response to condolences)
W: "That's why I didn't meet kids for lunch"
Me: "I didn't say anything about that, just expressing condolences for *patient*"
W: "Thank you"
Just makes me shake my head - that you can't even wish someone honest condolences without them jumping to defend themselves - guilty conscience anyone?
