Oh, the other news is that my mom is going to be visiting her twin brother (who is not well, but just keeps going, anyway) in Lubbock at the end of the month through the beginning of next month. His wife had a knee replaced earlier this month, and their kids have tag-teamed helping out until then. It's a full day's drive over there, but I might take a few days and run over for a visit. It would be nice to take some kids along, but I'm not sure that will work out. Oh, well, there is a little time to plan that.

Lola! Going through El Paso only adds about an hour. If I leave one afternoon, I could break the drive into two days, which would not be a disaster, in one direction or the other!

Yes, the oldest ones leaving hurts. And then making enough combined to lose most of the child tax credit is really painful. If I can scrape up some more deductions, I can get a little of that back. Overall, not a lot of fun!

WRONG! Did you calculate how to fill out her W-4 for her so that it wouldn't have negative tax implications? No? Then that was HER responsibility to do so. Does she hand you her paystubs every pay period so you could see what taxes have gone out and use that to calculate any needed adjustments to her witholdings? No? Again, HER fault.

Do you see where I'm going with this? You are being fatalistic about it Jeff. Those are the points to make with her if she starts blaming. Tell her that and walk away. Don't let her argue. As you said, she's a great arguer and will win at all costs. Don't let her.

Taxes are BOTH of your responsibilities, not just yours.
