After a good long run of 8 years together and a great many interesting adventures and challenges, etc my baby is being sent off to pasture.
They are decommissioning my aeroplane. It feels like my arm is being amputated. This is going to bother me for a while. I loved her and was spoiled that I unlike all the other pilots in my co got to fly the same airplane each and evry night. We bonded.
This blows. I thought they were just bluffin. They had said that it was going to be taken off line but I figured it would take forever like so many other things
My comment to ops when I learned of this bad news this AM was that I was more deserving to be sent off to pasture then the dang airplane. The way my body seems to be rebelling against me ...
I have been like a bear in hibernation these last couple of days. No inspiration, motivation or anything much. Just can't get going.
Darling sure seems to have flaked out once again. Gave her a ring and chose not to leave a VM around noon to see how she was and when she would be coming by. I hope she is fine and it was just inconsiderateness ..or do I.?!
SHe is a space case.
best get going and figure out what the heck needs doing.
next vaca week is June 25. almost seems a bit far off ...
plus I get a partial week off first week of March after the conclusion of my annual recurrent training in Memphis which only takes the first three days of the week.
I am surely not happy or excited about never having gotten to say proper goodbye to my baby. She is a Cessna 208 Caravan/Cargomaster. The reason why they chose to decommission it is because it was an odd-ball short-bus Caravan (kind of like its pilot of the last eight yrs). It was pretty much a one of a kind in our fleet --the first generation of the Caravan's that Cessna still produces. There was no really pressing reason to retire it as far as I could see. As best I know it (maybe not all that well) the parts procurement should not have been that much of an issue. Probably just some desk lacky somewhere didn't want to have to keep accounting for some "**" airplane that was slightly different then the rest.
I am kinda pissed about it. Me and her got along very well. Now I gotta fly the C-208B that is no where near as agile of an airplane as my baby. It fishes around in the sky. My baby held a nice solid line in the sky and outperformed the other every day of the week.
I looked that one up since I'd never heard of it before. That's a little guy! Who do you fly for? I was assuming a commercial airline but not with that one!
It's a sweet little plane though. I don't fly but I love aircraft.
