Looks like I spoke too soon. H responded to my e-mail by IMing me.

STBXH: hullo. got your email about taxes
STBXH: when would you like to have them in by?
Me: i don't actually have all my W-2s yet. still waiting on [y]
Me: I just wanted to give you a heads up. Hopefully I'll have everything together next week
STBXH: right, well I will begin gathering mine - it might no be quickly since I'm currently in a labor dept. disupte with my former employer for not giving me my last pay check
Me: ooh
Me: from [X]?
STBXH: but once that is sorted out I'll get mine together and we can try to file as early as possible
STBXH: yeah
STBXH: and lets have the deposit go to you, since I owe you from last year already
Me: okay. that sounds like a plan
STBXH: I think I'll still owe you on top of it, but it should bring things closer to fair
Me: We can figure out all that later.

Then he asked how studying was going, was telling me about a new job he applied for, and also how his credit is horrible and he's going through a debt management firm to get stuff sorted out.

I'm glad he sounded almost reasonable. Though I expect he will be slow. I would think that the W2 shouldn't be held up, since the IRS doesn't give a hoot what he should have been paid, only what he was paid! And the company has to have it out by the end of the month. But, it seems that he might already be working on an excuse for foot-dragging. I hope I'm wrong!

Its nice that he was being a little more open with you though, telling you about job stuff, but also, all the hassles he is having.

I know its hard to tell via IM.. but what jumped out at me is that you sound fine, balanced and he sounds totally miserable and like his life is in the toilet.

Sad hey? But like so many WAS here (like Mishka's x), they just seem to end up miserable!!

They take it out at the sourse here, too. But it is just an estimate. So then you have to do the paperwork, and figure out the real number, and either get some back, or send them some more!

Taxes have been taken out, but we get some of it back. So I'm trying to get money back LOL.

If his employer is being a pain about his last paycheck, it's entirely possible they are also being asinine about his W2. W2s get mailed by the employer, not the IRS. It's not legal for an employer to hold paychecks, and they also must cash out vacation time, and mail W2s. Besides which, W2s aren't REQUIRED to be out until January 31st so if this guy decides to be an a$$, he can wait til the last minute.

I don't have all of mine yet, and he doesn't have all of his. So for the moment not an issue.

Besides, why borrow trouble?

I'm just glad he finally seems to be trying to do something about his life. Not sure if he's still going to counseling, but getting his debt all sorted out will be good. He admitted to me he's got about $9000 in credit cards. Yikes.

I'm gonna go work out before class tonight.

I've got $9000 in credit card debt too. $7000 of that is on one card that xH ran up to the limit. What a moron! Now I'm stuck with it because I'll never see a dime from him unless I take him to court. The D settlement says he'll pay half but I don't expect to ever see it.

You sound so good Michelle! Good for you. I know the studying has to be so hard. How is that class going? Is it like a giant cramming session?

It just boggles my mind. We went from having $15k in savings when he got home from his deployment to $9000 in debt. I seriously don't understand how someone could spend that much money. It just boggles my mind. Whatever, since the serious credit card debt happened after we S and was only in his name, I won't get stuck with it. On the other hand, I'm stuck with $93k in student loans, so I'm not sure who got the better end of the deal LOL.

Anyways, yeah, feels like a giant cramming session. Both reassuring and scary depending on the day. Some days I'm like oh yeah, I remember that. And some days I'm like, did we learn this???? Lots of work and studying, but trying to take some breaks too and make sure I get a decent amount of sleep.

Went for a run yesterday. Been a while, so I'm sore today, but felt good. Gave me some energy. Also went up to R's work today and went to a thai place nearby. So yummy.

I'm sitting in the student center pretending to study at the moment. Better get back to it LOL.
