Good for you Mikey! It sounds like you and VST41 are on the same page with this thing, so just go with it. Don't overthink it at this point. Enjoy your time together and apart and just let things happen naturally. Its ok to be a little scared of how you feel, anyone would be a little gun-shy after what you've been through, but you don't have to think about anything further than later today. Just take it at the pace you two are comfortable with and see what happens.
