FIB - I've got a good "Is there a doctor in the house?" story.
Many years ago, while attending a punk concert, I heard that announcement. Having come to the concert directly from my residency, I was dressed in a demur peach turtleneck dress - in a sea of black leather. AS I worked my way to the security guards, people made comments like "They don't need a PhD, honey!". (This was before women MDs were as common as now).
The patient was a girl with a dislocated thumb, which I quickly fixed. The burly security guards looked at me with surprise and exclaimed "You really ARE a doctor!"
This story got me into another concert a year later by the same production company, when the performing band (friends) forgot to submit their guest list. Good karma comes around. :>)
threadjack - kml, did you happen to catch Oprah about her thyroid problems and no one checked for it? the doctors were treating all her symptoms but not the cause because no one checked. Everytime I hear about a thyroid I think of you. Hope you are ok.. threadjack over.

Oh that's easy. The cost of BEING there is probably the same if you lived there. It's GETTING there and back that is costly.
