I'm so sorry, Hooozh. I too held our dog (actually, my wife's dog from before we married) named "Max" when we finally had to put him down, and we lost our 18 year old cat two Christmases ago. It's horrible.

I don't know who it was who said it, but it's true: "If when I get to Heaven, my dog's not there, I don't want to go in." Somehow I don't think that will be a problem.

Also: "Dogs are proof that Gods love us."

and: "I only hope I can be half the person my dog thinks I am."

We took our boys to see "Marley & Me" over the Christmas break (do NOT go see THAT one now!!!!!), and it was hard. Even though my 12 year old lab is healthy, he IS getting older, looks EXACTLY like the older "Marley" in the movie, and there were some other similarities as well. All four of us cried our eyes out.
